A little boys imagination comes to life in this adventure. trees that never stop growing and sailing across the sea to a animal kingdom looking for their next king. Although the trip was short and exciting the the new King, the little boy, always knew he could go back home, especially when he could smell his home cooked meal waiting for him in his bedroom. This would be a great book to read before having students use their own imagination to create their own kingdom. Giving the students the ability to draw out their kingdom then share to the class about their kingdom once everyone is done.

This is one of my favorite books to read in the classroom. This story is all about a little boy and his tree. How the tree gives selflessly to the little boy. Silverstein truly shows the readers what giving selflessly, without receiving anything in return, to the people that mean the most to you. This would be a great story to read aloud and have a short writing activity about giving to others. The students can write a paragraph about the way they could give selflessly to others. Then having the students share their short stories to the class.

This is just a fun book for all ages. Watching the lowercase letters climb up the coconut tree with a little help from their relatives for the final coconut tree climb. Watching the letters fall and help themselves up, even some have bandages hiding their falls. This is a great book to help introduce the letters and the alphabet to a class. Nothing the difference between the lowercase letters and the uppercase letters. A great activity for this book would be for the students to create their own coconut tree with the letters of their name climbing up the tree.

Dr. Seuss books are always a favorite and not only with children. The silly rhymes and green colored food bring out our imagination no matter our age. Reading through the story, the children will hear lots of reasons to not like Green Eggs and Ham, but the best part is when the students actually decide to try Green Eggs and Hams to see if they really don't like them. A great activity to do after reading this book would be for the students to actually try eating green eggs and ham. I remember my elementary school having green eggs and ham one day for lunch. This would also be a fun book to bring out when first learning about rhymes. Having the students find the rhymes and then creating their own set of rhymes in their writing notebook.
